Salta joins the new space economy: the Chamber of Deputies declares Argentina Space of interest

The Chamber of Deputies of Salta declared Argentina Space of interest, the national gathering of the space, technological, scientific and industrial ecosystem that will bring to the province leading figures, companies, universities, public agencies, startups, investors and strategic players of the new space economy. The initiative, brought to the provincial Legislature by deputy Marianela Ibarra, was approved on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

The event will take place on November 11, 12 and 13, 2026 at the Salta Convention Center, with the aim of consolidating a national space for connecting science, industry, technology, investment and productive development. In a global context where the space economy is advancing rapidly, Argentina Space proposes opening a strategic conversation from Salta about the place the country can occupy in one of the most dynamic sectors of the 21st century.

The legislative declaration recognises the value of an event that is not limited to the scientific field, but seeks to connect knowledge, innovation and concrete opportunities for development. The space economy already has an impact on key areas such as telecommunications, Earth observation, artificial intelligence, advanced electronics, digital infrastructure, defence, mining, logistics, agribusiness and the environment.

In that scenario, the support of the Chamber of Deputies strengthens Salta's position as a strategic ally of Argentina Space and as a province capable of hosting an agenda of national and international scope. The legislative decision also expresses the importance of bringing together the public sector, the scientific and technological system, the productive fabric and the business world around a concrete opportunity for growth.

Argentina Space is born of a conviction: that Argentine space development is not an individual mission but a joint flight. It is knowledge, management, institutional coordination and the opening of new doors so that Salta and Argentina can be active parts of the space economy”, said Cristina Campos, one of the driving forces behind Argentina Space, who received the distinction on behalf of the initiative.

During the same legislative session, the Chamber also honoured as an Outstanding Personality the biomedical and aerospace engineer from Salta Noel De Castro, the first Argentine astronaut candidate selected for a space mission. This recognition reinforces the federal character of the agenda and highlights talent from Salta projected towards one of the most challenging frontiers of human development.

Choosing Salta as the host of Argentina Space expresses a strategic decision, placing the province at the forefront of this process. It also shows that the new space economy can be built from the provinces, integrating knowledge, resources, infrastructure, talent, investment and long-term vision.

Argentina Space will bring together leading figures from the space, satellite, scientific, technological, productive and business sectors to discuss opportunities linked to satellite development, data-based services, artificial intelligence, exploration, space resources, industrial innovation and new value chains.

With this recognition, Argentina Space moves forward in establishing itself as a national meeting point for a growing ecosystem. From Salta, the event proposes turning Argentine capabilities into concrete opportunities for development, skilled employment, investment, innovation and international reach.
